NEWS ‘BOYCOTT SQUAD’: Gospel All Stars Shine @VGMA, Thanks To Nacee ByEntertainment GHPublished on April 11, 2017 SHARE TWEET COMMENT

The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards has always been controversy-prone and this year, the center of the confusion hinged on the boycott of the awards by some gospel artists and stakeholders – www.entertainmentgh.com recollects!

There was a loud outburst when PRO of the organizing firm of the awards, Charterhouse, passed a ‘harmless’ comment on gospel artists connected to bribery, something he later apologized for.

That commentary sparked a severe angst and banter within the gospel fraternity and the music industry as a whole. For weeks, it became the topic of discussion.

In the heat of the moment, some gospel artists openly boycotted the scheme and were even bold enough to make the suggestion of returning awards they’ve won in the past. The likes of OJ and Ohemaa Mercy spearheaded the move.

Another person who was a strong advocate for the boycott was Ernest Kwasi Ennin, a revered music producer/distributor, who has, and manages a couple of A-list gospel stars.

Nacee, who set a record as the only gospel artist to notch the most nominations in any edition of the VGMA, stayed away from the boycott talk and was named as one of the performers at the main event.

Surprisingly, when Nacee was called to perform, he showed up with several gospel artists, including the Likes SP Kofi Sarpong and Abena Ruthy, both managed by Kwasi Ernest, plus Gifty Osei, Ohemaa Mercy,Cece Twum and others.

At that moment, it was clear that, all issues relating to boycott were left at the entrance.

The Gospel All-Stars, led by Nacee, put up such a stellar performance, and ended up being one of the best performers on the night.

Checks by www.entertainmentgh.com show that, it was originally a Nacee gig but he came out with the brilliant idea of assembling other stars for that memorable performance.

Regardless of the seeming ‘rift’ between some of the artists and George Quaye, who incidentally, was one of the directors of the event – Charterhouse approved the performance and gave them all the necessary support.

Sources claim that, it was all hugs and kisses between George and the artists, plus Kwasi Ernest -during the days of rehearsals for the performance.
