Popular Ghanaian gospel musician, Broda Sammy, has challenged the current trend of gospel songs.

He has emphasized that the genre should focus on celebration and not only about sadness.

Speaking in an interview with Okay FM on November 10, 2025, Broda Sammy questioned why many gospel tracks are composed to make people cry.

“Gospel music is composed in such a way that it makes people cry. Go to the comments section of most gospel songs, and the people say that they were crying. But why must it be like that?” he asked.

He pointed out that when people attend secular entertainment events such as ‘Rapperholic’ or ‘ShattaFest’, they experience excitement unlike gospel events.

“But the way we have chosen to showcase Christianity is as something that we have to be somber all the time. No, we have to be happy as well.

“When people buy tickets to attend Rapperholic or ShattaFest, they are not buying to go and cry. They are going to go and be happy,” he said.

He added, “Even the Bible says to always rejoice. So gospel music should be about rejoicing. Not always about crying,”
