Zionfelix.com called Kwaku Manu this morning to confirm or deny this story of government sponsoring them to this year’s World Cup but he says he knows nothing about it. He added that he worked to get his visa to Brazil all by himself.

This was after we wrote about Kumawood actors complaining about government sidelining them when choosing ambassadors for Black Stars for the 2014 World Cup tournament.

But Ghanasportsonline.com reports that:

Akua Ataa Kyeiwaa, Kwaku Manu, Wayoosi, Kwame BA, Ras Nii, Dabodabo and three other Kumawood stars have been named as ambassadors for Ghana’s World cup adding up to the already unveiled 15 celebrity ambassadors.

The Government of Ghana is funding the travel, feeding and accommodation arrangements for seven Kumawood Movie comedians and two movie producers to Brazil as part of Ghana’s World Cup contingent and ambassadors.

The government through the ministry for youth and sports unveiled a 15 member celebrity ambassadors for the World Cup including musicians Shatta Wale, Becca, Samini etc. The team also included movie stars Jackie Appiah, John Dumelo and many others but the government having sidelined other local language movie stars came under intense criticisms.

Buckling under pressure, the ministry has decided to include seven other movie stars from the Kumawood division and Ghanasportsonline.com investigations indicate that tickets and other arrangements have already been made for comedians like Akua Ataa Kyeiwaa, Wayoosi, Kwaku Manu, Ras Niini, Fumyaa.

Two movie producers also included on the government ticket are Kwame BA and Jones Agyeman. Kumawood movie producer Jones Agyeman told Angel FM show “We think we (Kumawood actors) were sidelined in the naming of the ambassadors for the World Cup and so we fought through many quarters and got ourselves to the ministry’s headquarters”.

“Finally, the ministry has accepted that they made a mistake in naming the ambassadors and so they have purchased tickets for nine of our movie stars who will also travel to Brazil as ambassadors”.

“We got our tickets and they have prepared places for myself, Wayoosi, Kyeiwaa, Ras, Bill Asamoah and the others I mentioned to you.”
