Yvonne Nelson agrees with her colleague actress Bibi Bright that the movie industry is gradually dying.

The actress cum movie producer in a chat with MzGee on Hitz FM gave many factors she thinks are killing the Ghanaian movie industry. Naming the causes, she mentioned piracy as a major factor contributing to the slow growing of the movie industry.

To her, moviemakers obtained money in return for labour from CD sales years back but the continues illegal production of movies in recent times make producers run at loss.

She pleaded with government to construct theaters in each region to help moviemakers showcase their works.

Miss Nelson after making the plea quickly added that she believes government does not respect entertainers in the country so her request will not be taken serious.

The “If Tomorrow Never Comes” actress opined that government would listen to the needs of footballers and give deaf ears to that of entertainers in the country but both are equally working hard to project the image of Ghana.

“The whole industry is slow. The problem now is piracy because the DVD market is gone. Producers used to get their returns from CDs and DVDs but that is no more so you can imagine the pain.

If government can build cinemas in all regions for us it will really help. If that is done you can release a movie today and somebody in Tamale can also watch it same time with someone in Accra.

There are so many things they can do for us but I believe we don’t have that respect or they don’t respect us as much.

They would rather pay attention to footballers than we actors and musicians but we sell Ghana. A lot of people know Ghana through the music and movies we produce from here.

People did not know Ghana but because of our music and movies, Caribbeans know of us. How can they focus on football and forget us? Are we just thinking it’s all about football? It is very wrong” Yvonne Nelson told MzGee.
