William Quarcoo, an advertiser by profession, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for raping the 24-year-old-wife of his best man.
After raping her, William gave the victim ?100,000 for her to use to plait her hair but the victim rejected the money. William who pleaded guilty to the charge of rape told the court that he used a condom and also the victim consented.
The court, presided over by Mr Kwame Asiedu therefore remanded him in prison custody to appear again on July 5, 2004, to allow prosecution to forward the docket on the case to the Attorney General?s Department for advice.
Chief Inspector Emmanuel Tawiah Boison told the crowded court that, William and the victim are co-tenants in the same house at Dzorwulu in Accra with their rooms adjacent to each other. The victim?s husband acted as his best man when William married his present wife last year. Prosecution said at about 11.45am on June 16, the victim who was sick and was resting in her room suddenly saw William entering without knocking.
As soon as he entered, he pounced on her but she struggled with him. But William overpowered her. He then forcibly had sex with her.
