Reggae artiste Kojo Kurankye, popularly known as Ras Kuuku, has claimed that Gyakie deserved to win the Female Vocal Performance award at the just-ended 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

In a conversation with DJ Slim on the Daybreak Hitz show on June 5, he expressed his shock at Gyakie's snub at the event, despite her significant work.

Ras Kuuku cited Gyakie's musical contributions over the past year, particularly highlighting her collaboration with North London's emerging rapper JBEE.

“I think Gyakie should have won the Female Vocalist of the Year. She did a lot of work last year, especially with the song she featured the boy who is coming from the UK. She did well but she had nothing, why?” he asked.

Contrary to Ras Kuuku's expectations, Gyakie was not among the nominees for the award.

The category featured Niiella, Titi Owusu, Adina, Abiana, Lordina The Soprano, and the eventual winner, Queendalyn Yurglee.

The TGMA defines the Best Female Vocal Performance as an accolade awarded by the Academy and Boards to the solo female artiste who delivers the most outstanding vocal performance on a musical piece released within the year under consideration.

The TGMAs

The 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), which unfolded at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, was a night of celebration and recognition for the talent in the Ghanaian music scene.

The competition was fierce, but Stonebwoy stood out as the evening's top gainer, taking home a total of six awards, including the prestigious Artiste of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Best International Collaboration, and Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year awards.

King Promise, another top contender, despite not clinching the Artiste of the Year title, was honoured with three awards, including the Afropop Song of the Year, Afrobeat/Afropop Artiste of the Year, and Most Popular Song of the Year.
