Ghanaian highlife luminary Gyedu- Blay Ambolley’s latest album KETAN will see a May 12 release in Germany. Published by Agogo Records, it has been described as an “augmentation of Highlife, Afro, Jazz, and Dance Music”
Born in Secondi, the Simigwa Do rapper, 70 is credited as a pioneering force in rap worldwide. He has recorded about 30 albums, and has been associated with global music icons as Miriam Makeba, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Osibisa, ET Mensah, George Howard, Angela Bofill, Norman Connors, Manu DeBango, Lakeside, Chikuzan Takahashi, Ricardo Estrada, Maputo Correa, Oscar Brashear and Michael Session.
Leader of several bands bands including his own in 1979-80, Ambolley is recipient of an endless number of enviable honours including a “Lifetime Achievement Award” by Jazz at Drew from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Los Angeles, CA, as well as a Congressional,Gubernatorial Certificate of Special Recognition by Cogresswoman Juanita Millinder McDonald.
Ambolley’s sound has been called “entertaining, elevating and spiritually inescapable, such that its uniqueness transcends all musical categories”, and KETAN follows his 2015 classic African Soul.
