ABC pictures newly released movie trailer ‘Happy Deathday’ reveals a new movement and transformation in the Ghana movie industry. A critical observation of Kafui Danku’s film has proven that new films made in Africa can compete with some of the Hollywood works.
Let us examine the three fundamental changes the movie is contributing to the Ghallywood industry landscape.
1. Use of Drone Camera
The use of drone cameras gives a movie project a new and inspiring ariel view. Previously, due to the cost of the technology, to get such top view was possible with the hiring of a helicopter. Today with the revolution in the movie gadgets industry and with cheaper camera drones like phantom vision equipped to shoot high definition pictures and videos, both the financial cost has reduced and the possibility achieved.
All a wise movie producer needs to do is to transfer the technology to Africa. In the movie-‘Happy Deathday’, an Ariel view was employed at the beach and even at the mountains in Aburi. This singular introduction and practice is highly commendable even though it poses its own threats.
2. Use of Under Water camera
Even though Wiyala is one of the foremost people to tap into this amazing technology of shooting under water, Boys Kasa also followed but none is yet to include it in a full length movie. Again we thank advancement in technology as the key to making such expensive enterprise within reach.
Cameras like Gopro can shoot high quality videos at 1080 pixels and even more with the latest Go pro 4 that shoots 4K videos both above and underwater. During a pool party scene, the camera was in action under water.
Producers of the ‘Happy Deathday’ movie remain the first to include such sophistication in a full length movie.
3. A Ghanaian Director
Have you noticed that most of the works by ABC pictures, Yvonne Nelson productions, Eddie Watson, etc are usually directed by Nigerian Paschal Amanfo? I was impressed to see a new name and a Ghanaian for that matter Kobi Rana!
He did an awesome job in pulling out this project. I have never seen any Nigerian movie directed by a Ghanaian before and thus when we give the people the chance to prove themselves, we will be amazed at the talents we conceal.
Finally, the trailer reveals just a little about the movie, for me Kafui Danku’s Happy Deathday movie will spark serious attention from all African movie lovers because not only is the romantic scene hot but the movie promises to be intriguing, entertaining and full of suspense.
The innovative technological approach is but a complimentary aspect to the powerful story line employed, and the cast of Elikem, Gardiner, Nana McBrown, Stonebwoy, and even Kafui Danku herself is a squad of great talents coming together to blow you away.
With all that said, let us awaken you to what you expect to see on the premiere day; the movie asks the question of being in a world of mistakes and accidents, disaster is inevitable; but how do we control damage without being damaged?
