Ghanaian musician Article Wan has stated that having a single hit song does not necessarily make an artiste great or ensure a successful music career.
In a report by graphic.com.gh, Article Wan stated that while a hit song can bring fame and fortune, it is not the ultimate measure of an artiste's talent or greatness.
"A hit song is just a moment in time. It’s a flash in the pan. But to be a great artiste, you need to have depth and substance as well as being consistent in your music," he explained.
"True greatness and longevity in music come from dedication, hard work, and a passion for one's craft. Anybody can have a hit song, but not everybody can create music that resonates with people on a deeper level," he added.
Article Wan, known for his hit songs "Solo" and "Ngege," pointed out that many talented artistes have not achieved widespread recognition simply because they lack a hit song.
However, he noted that these artistes often possess significant abilities that one-time hitmakers may not. He also highlighted a shift in today's music audience, who may not prioritise deep lyrics as much as previous generations did.
"While today’s music audience still values meaningful lyrics, their appreciation is different from previous generations. Lyrics have been toned down in today’s music because that doesn’t count much in making a hit," he said.
According to him, consistency, rather than a single hit song, is key to a successful music career.
He also acknowledged the unpredictability of which tracks will resonate with listeners and become successful.
