When Kwesi Eyiah, a native of Gomoa Mransi, left home for a funeral at nearby Gomoa Akwamu and decided to visit his two children (who were with their mother, his former wife), little did he expect to be attacked with a club by his children's stepfather, Emmanuel Tetteh.

Eyiah had reportedly divorced his children's mother who was now married to Tetteh and with whom she lived together with her two children from the previous marriage.

On May 12, 2007, when Eyiah as usual entered the house to visit his children, Tetteh picked up a club and targeted Eyiah's head, but missed as Eyiah ducked and fell to the ground only for Tetteh to pounce on Eyiah and bite off his right eyelid.

Tetteh is therefore facing a charge of causing harm before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Beresford Acquah.

He pleaded not liable and the court remanded him in prison custody until August 7.

Chief Inspector H. N. Kofie, prosecuting, stated that on that fateful day when Eyiah went to the house of Tetteh to visit his children, he did not find them the first time. On his second visit to the house at 5:30 pm the same day, neither the children nor their mother were present, save Tetteh.

On seeing Eyiah in his house, Tetteh seething with unprovoked anger, picked up a club and aimed a blow at the head of the former, who ducked but fell to the ground in the process. Tetteh took advantage of Eyiah's fall, pounced on him and bit off the lid of his right eye.

While Eyiah was rushed to the neighbouring Gomoa Obuasi Community Clinic, Tetteh was handed over to the police in the same town (Obuasi).

However, the Obuasi clinic referred Eyiah to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital which in turn referred him to the Breman Asikuma Catholic Mission Hospital, where Eyiah's eyelid was stitched.
