Herbalist fined for disturbing public peace

Tema, July 13, GNA - A Circuit 'A' in Tema has imposed a fine of two million cedis, on a herbalist who used a public address system to advertise his herbal drugs at the Members of Parliament flats, at the Sakumono Estate.

Kofi Ofori, who pleaded guilty to the charge of disturbing public peace, will go to prison for six months in default.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Christopher Quaicoe, told the Court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that at about 0600 hours on July 1, 2004, when Ghana was commemorating Republic Day with a public holiday, the accused mounted a public address system on a car to advertise herbal drugs.

The Tema Regional Police Command was informed about the nuisance leading to his arrest.

Driver granted 20 million cedis bail

Tema, July 13, GNA - A Circuit Court 'B' in Tema has granted 20 million cedis bail to a driver who hit his vehicle against another car on the Tema General Hospital road.

Samuel Marty, who was charged for careless driving, pleaded not guilty and will reappear on July 22.

Police Inspector Tee Mate, told the Court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on May 11, 2004, at 1130 hours, the accused was driving from the direction of the Hospital towards the light industrial area in the city.

He said on reaching a junction at the industrial area, Martey failed to observe the flow of traffic and bumped into the car causing damage to it.
