Paapa YanksonThe life in Highlife music came alive last night at Citi FM?s Music of Ghanaian Origin (MOGO) festival at the Accra international conference centre. The legendary Agya Koo Nimo set the show in train with his authentic rhythms, playing on his guitar some of his most popular songs including the evergreen, yadie ye ya. The air of nostalgia blew through the venue as some of Highlife?s greats lined up to perform.

Beautiful Paulina Oduro invited Bessa Simons and Alfred Bannerman on stage and they really did their own thing. Ben Brako came on stage singing songs the audience had not heard for years. His Mewie magrodzi song ended his performance as expected by fans.

The man from the west, Paapa Kofi Yankson, moved the audience with his okukuseku and enjoyed massive audience response. Paapa came with a comic touch, which made his performance very attractive. Paulina Oduro later joined him on stage to do tena menkyen.

George Darko came in to claim his part of the unforgettable night of Highlife. Ooh it?s Hilife time, just get on the beat, sunshine music, he sang.

The audience was saddened when after George Darko?s performance, MC Nii Armah Dagadu announced a ten-minute break. Everybody was itching to see Osibisa. The group of criss-crossed rhythms thrilled the audience and caught the likes of Nana Akomeah, a Member of Parliament, dancing.

It was quite embarrassing when the MC, Jessica, tried doing her own version of Paapa Yankson and Paulina Oduro?s tena menkyen. Jessica has a great voice and sang well but Nii Armah-Dagadu was a let-down when he said; ?my wife is here so I can?t sing?. Kudos to Citi FM for bringing Highlife back alive, MOGO 2006 was surely a great one.
