Hip hop is the trend - Scientific

Ghana based Liberian rapper, scientific has applauded the improvement of Ghana’s music industry saying that the songs being produced in recent times by Ghanaian artistes are of high quality.

The Africa unite singer explained that there are some hip hop artistes in Ghana who give off good performances during shows and even declared his admiration for Kwaw Kese, Sarkodie, and VVIP for their unique stage craft and showmanship on stage.


In an interview with Thompson C.D. Nortey on the WANNABEE SHOW on XFM, Scientific said he was the first rapper to have MTV BASE shoot a three day documentary on him which became the gateway for many hip hop artistes in Ghana.


Answering a question on why he chose to do hip hop music, he responded: “hip hop is me and it is the trend now”. He says he acknowledges the tremendous work of certain hip hop artistes in Ghana like Sarkodie, Manifest, Joey B, EL, D-BLACK and other renowned hip hop artistes in the music industry.


Scientific (Sonny Jamaal Tayshaun Tubman) was born in Liberia and raised in Ghana due to the outbreak of war in Liberia at that time.


He says he recognized his passion for rap at a tender age whiles in school and studied the music of other hip hop artistes. He mentioned rap legends- Notorious B.I.G, Nas, BIG L as the people who influenced his style of rap till today.

He added that, the stage name Scientific was adopted after hip life grandpapa Reggie Rockstone had listened to his freestyle rap which he composed using scientific terms when they were doing some recordings in a studio together.


Scientific commended Ghana’s music industry for improving the production of music in Ghana.


He further added that although hip hop artistes are making good efforts, hip hop is still not being given the utmost sustenance.


“Young artistes in Ghana are not given the opportunity to unveil their skills by other renowned artistes”.


He recommended young and imminent artistes to be industrious and persistent in their music career as it is getting much tougher in the industry.
