Hiplife grand Papa, Reggie Rockstone has slammed controversial reggae artiste Blakk Rasta for suggesting that the hiplife genre is dying gradually.
Speaking on the Entertainment segment of the ‘The Zone’ Thursday, the “Maka maka” hitmaker told host Naa Ashorkor and AJ Sarpong that “hiplife is not dead as long as artistes rap in their language. It might evolve into something else but the very tree of hiplife is there”.
The VVIP member added “usually I will let Blakk Rasta slide because he is an attention seeker but then again certain things shouldn’t be allowed to slide because some of us have sacrificed and still sacrificing for this movement to be as prolific as it is today. How can he narrow the death of a genre down to a language?...It’s ridiculous and it makes no sense.
“Blakk rasta has never been to Jamaica and his claim to fame was speaking ‘patoa’ on radio which was entertaining to Ghanaians, so how can he turn around and chastise artistes for doing same...I call him ‘jafaking’ and not Jamaican.
“When I returned home from England, the first thing I did was rap in Twi, which was a reverse of what everyone did because English was my first language...I learnt to speak Twi.
“He (Blakk Rasta) talked about legalizing “Marijuana” and when put before a committee he begged like he stole something...I need to check him if no one will."
