'Hiplife musicians do not consult' – Gyedu Blay Ambolley

Gyedu Blay Ambolley has heavily criticize and express his displeasure about the current trend of hiplife music in Ghana saying most musicians nowadays do not consult.

The ace rapper sounded worried about the current state of hiplife music in Ghana and announced his discontentment in an exclusive interview with Dj Sly on Ark Fm in Sunyani over the weekend.

He said musicians in this day and age do not take their time to learn and come out with quality songs but only concentrate on “terms” and danceable “beats” which easily fade out with time.

“Musicians today do not take their time to learn and study music but heavily rely on engineers for danceable beats to fuse in their “terms” and “raps” to make a track”.

According to Ambolley, most hiplife artistes do not accord them the needed respect and attention because they see the current systems to be better than before.

“Hiplife artistes do not see the need to consult or seek advice from the elders in the industry because we are considered as the “old school” forgetting that we started the rap and the genre and it would be prudent for them to learn from us”.

The ‘Simigwa’ hits maker in another development suggested that Ghanaian artistes should stop giving themselves acclaimed names as dancehall kings and queens and concentrate on projecting the name and flag of Ghana high because dancehall was originated from Jamaica and not Ghana.
