Following a long-time break from the music industry by hiplife musician Flexy da Don, many have been wondering what the cause could be but the singer has explained how betrayals by DJs and promoters made him stopped doing music.

Speaking in an interview on “Showbiz Agenda” on Zylofon FM 102.1, he revealed to the host of the show Sammy Flex how he sold his Camry to promote his songs and videos but his efforts proved futile. According to him, he had to sell his Camry at a low price for 40,000 cedis because he needed the money to promote his songs and videos. “Yeah Sammy I dey and I haven’t gone anywhere just that the industry didn’t favour me. I tried my best just to promote my works but those I came in contact with betrayed me. It is not that I’m not serious about my career because could you believe that I sold my car just to promote my songs and videos. I sold my Camry for 40,000 cedis just to promote my works. Well, the price was below the car but I needed the money to promote the song fast so I had to push it to a dealer” he revealed.

He further stated that he has no problem with he paying “payola” the popular practice where the artiste pays monies to DJ’s to play their songs but he feels bad when DJ’s after taking the money, refuse to play the song. According to the hiplife crusader, he paid a lot of DJs to play his songs when they were on air but none of them were able to help play and promote his songs for him to get a hit song.”

I don’t have any problem with payola because I know it`s business but when you take the money and happens not to play the song, I hurt. I paid a lot of DJ’s just to play my songs but they never did. The worst part of it was that I had to always call and remind them to play the song. When I come with the song and it is not good or not of your interest, just tell me but don’t take the money and later on, you wouldn’t play the song. I used to sit with DJs at a bar and made them feel better but they all failed me” he added.

In addition to this, he further recalled how popular television station 4Syte TV stopped the airing of his videos after two weeks when he had paid 5,000 cedis for a month video promotion package. According to him, when he approached the DJ responsible for the airplay as at that time, the DJ told him he had stopped airing his video because he (Flexy da Don) had paid the biggest portion of the money to his boss but not he the (DJ).

Explaining further, he praised host of “Showbiz Agenda” on Zylofon FM and “Real Talk” on Sammy Flex TV Sammy Flex for rejecting a payola he paid to him to promote his song saying the song was not of standard. “Bra Sammy I still remember the last time I was in your car and we were listening to my music. The money I gave you, you rejected saying the song wasn’t of standard. I have been saying this about you, you are different from the rest. You didn’t take the money and I still remember” he said. He disclosed his plans to do a remix for his “banana” song with the boss of 30 billion gang Davido. Flexy da Don is a hiplife artiste who has ever worked with dancehall act Stonebwoy, Tinny and he is known for hit songs like Jeopardize and Banana. Click the link below for the full conversation.
