Ghanaian gospel musician, Ewura Abena has shared how she lost her job just five days after releasing her song "It is Finished" on April 7, 2023.

In an interview with Hitz FM on August 26, 2024, Ewura Abena explained that her dismissal was due to not meeting a required target at work.

"I released 'This Far' on October 7, 2022, which did well and that after a long break from 'Agye Me Nkwa.' Then on April 7, 2023, I released 'It Is Finished,' and on April 12, I was fired. It felt like 'It is Finished' finished my job.

“It wasn’t as though I was given a prior notice but I was told I wasn’t able to hit the 24 per cent target, but then, I had done 23.8," she narrated.

Ewura Abena noted that such significant life challenges often coincide with her music releases, describing it as a ‘repetition.’

“At that moment, it felt easy to think history was repeating itself. That is what happened to me previously. I release a song, and it does well, and then something happens, sometimes, I get an accident, I fall into diverse temptations of problems and I sink again,” she added.

After her dismissal, Ewura Abena faced a tough period from April to September, struggling to find a job while continuing to release music.

“From April to September, I was jobless and it was hard. It was very tough but I was still releasing albums and all those tours but no one knew it. When I went back after the launching in September last year, I went into one of the hospitals and they offered to give me a 5-hour part-time administrative work”, she said.

She eventually secured a part-time administrative position at a hospital, but the job led to an accident that left her on crutches and without pay.

“I went in one to two weeks into it, tripped off from the top, had a spin of leg and landed on crutches. I wasn’t paid because it was part-time, not even on the day I had the accident. As humans, I became bitter in heart but God got me fired from my first job because it was hard, which mostly took me away from my kids”, she stated.

Reflecting on her journey, Ewura Abena expressed gratitude for the personal growth and spiritual connection she developed during this challenging time.

“In that time, glory to God, I had some personal space with God and I said I have seen You do this for me and I will say it is well with me and God encouraged me with words. I realise when we worry, we exalt the problem above the level it should be, but when we worship, we exalt Him and His promises over the problem.

“The day I was returning to the hospital, God gave me a job and I received an email from the government, offering me a job. It wasn’t just about the money because the Bible says we have a high priest who knows all of our weaknesses. God knew I wasn’t strong for the initial job I was doing since I had hormonal imbalance”, she said.

Her faith was rewarded when she received a government job offer, providing her with stability and a better work-life balance.
