It is just few weeks to the opening of the new season of Big Brother Africa reality show, ‘Hotshots’ and a former housemate is letting Ghanaians know how some fellow countrymen can relate among themselves in the house.
Several years after his infamous actions in the Big Brother Africa reality show, ‘Stargame’, Ghanaian comedian, Derrick Kobina Boateng (DKB) will never shake off the tag, ‘woman beater’ for a long time, but he has made some startling revelations on some incidents that occurred in the house.
Speaking to Afia Schwarzenegger on ETV, the comedian revealed, that the actions of another Ghanaian representative on the show, Keitta, was very shocking and heart breaking – to say the least.
According to him, Keitta stabbed him in the back and broke his heart after he (Keitta) flipped on him and denigrated him to the other housemates, moments after he was disqualified from the house.
“When the announcement of my disqualification was announced, Keitta came over to my room, encouraged me and even helped me pack my stuff. He said a lot of reassuring words to me and I also opened up to him, told him to forge ahead and represent the country very well,” he disclosed.
However DKB was very amazed when he went out of the house hours later and decided to monitor proceedings of the show: “Moments after my exit, I monitored the show online and to my surprise, I saw Keitta saying very bad things about me to the other housemates. He was telling them I was nobody in Ghana; I was not even popular and deserve whatever I got. He said some damaging stuff about me that was really heart breaking. Keitta was not real,” he divulged.
The comedian also claimed that there were mixed reactions to his slapping of Sierra Leonean housemate, Zainab – as he got massive support from certain quarters and suffered vilification in other quarters.
“At the airport in South Africa, many of the people who approached me were excited about the slap and in the plane, the cabin crew and some of the travellers took photos with me,” he said of his experience in South Africa on his way home.
The reception in Ghana was however, a direct contrast of what transpired in SA: “I thought I would receive some sort of a hero’s welcome, see a lot of people at the airport, a lot of media presence – all there to meet me, but I was shocked at the very cold reception,” he said.
DKB also disclosed that the incident in the Big Brother house affected his career and he went broke for eight (8) straight months.
“Some Women’s Group agitated strongly for my sack at Viasat 1, they demonstrated every day for my exit from the station and during those times, I suffered. Viasat stuck behind me but there were no gigs and I was totally broke for eight (8) months,” he revealed.
