Ghanaian musician and LGBT+ activist Angel Maxine has criticised politicians pushing for the passage of the anti-LGBT bill, arguing that lawmakers are neglecting far more pressing national issues.

Her comments came in response to Assin South MP John Ntim Fordjour, who demanded that President John Mahama and the NDC apologise to Ghanaian religious leaders for allegedly deprioritising the bill.

Fordjour’s stance followed comments by President Mahama describing the legislation as “not the most important issue” facing the country.

In an Instagram post on April 8, 2026, Angel Maxine questioned the logic of devoting legislative energy to the bill while critical infrastructure and social needs remain unaddressed.

"Don't politicians in Ghana have anything doing? They are rather wasting public funds to sit and debate unnecessary things like the anti-LGBT bill," she wrote.

"How is it your problem if somebody likes 'trumu'? Does 'trumu' affect the price of electricity? Do two consenting same-sex adults affect the price of fuel?" she added.

The activist pointed to deteriorating roads, lack of clean drinking water and electricity in some communities, and an overstretched healthcare system as areas deserving urgent attention.

"What will the anti-LGBT bill do for Ghana? There are so many things to talk about, so many things to deal with as a country. Not this," she stated.
