Hundreds turn up to support Okyeame Kwame's 'Music and Wheels'

Once again, Ghana’s most versatile rapper, Okyeame Kwame, The Rap Doctor has proven why he is one of the greatest musicians in the country.

On Friday April 22, 2016, Okyeame Kwame successfully hosted his fundraising event dubbed “Music and Wheels” to raise funds to support Ghana’s Paralympics Team participate in the 2016 Desert Challenge organized by the Arizona Disabled Sports (AZDS) to qualify for this year’s Paralympic Games in Rio, Brazil.

The team needs an amount of US$ 40,000.00 in order to adequately represent the nation at the games, this amount covers travel and other preparatory costs.

The show, which was held at the +233 Jazz Bar and Grill, was nothing short of spectacular with a perfect mix of performances from over 12 different artists. The show was co-hosted by Ghana’s Finest MC, KKD.

Okyeame Kwame’s spirited and high energy performance left many in awe, considering he just turned 40 years. Patrons were taken on a musical journey with Okyeame Kwame performing all his hit songs.

In a surprising twist, Musiga President, Obour, joined in the fray and performed his hit song “The Game” which features Okyeame Kwame.

The Paralympics Team was not to be left out. Mounting the stage, a contingent of the team performed “Yenara Y’asaase”.

Wiyaala proved why she is called the Lioness of Africa, thrilling the audience with her stage craft. In what can be considered an emotional reunion, Kunta Kinte and Flow King Stone, took to the stage to entertain the crowd.

Kwabena Kwabena was not to be left out of the fun, thrilling the crowd with his classics and stagecraft.

Speaking to the press after the event, Okyeame Kwame said “I am overwhelmed by the amazing show of love by the general public to the Ghana Paralympics Team.

As I promised to do, I organized this event to help the team’s efforts to raise funds to enable them travel to the USA to qualify them for the Paralympics in Rio later this year.

After hearing of their difficulty in raising funds, I decided to make this fundraiser a personal project to mark my 40th birthday. Aside this concert, I have personally been canvassing individuals and corporate entities for their support for the team.

I will like to take this opportunity to expresses my deepest gratitude to all who in the diverse ways have supported this cause. It is my belief that your contributions will be put to good use and the Paralympics Team will do us all Proud.

To all the artist who came here to support me as well, I am truly grateful to you for supporting this initiative. Finally to the media you have been a great partner to all my activities and I look forward to bigger and better things in the future. Thank you all”

All proceeds generated from the event and the fundraising drive will be presented to the team on Tuesday April 26, 2016. The team is scheduled to leave the country on Thursday April 29, 2016 for the USA.
