Hyped shows can be deceptive - Wiyaala

Many have argued that some Ghanaian musicians are not honest with their financial status, be they rich or poor.

While some say our musicians refuse to disclose their wealth for fear of being bewitched by their enemies, others argue that they do so to scare up-and-coming artistes or probably turn away friends and family relations who will be banking on them financially.

However, Ghanaian Afro-pop artiste, Wiyaala Noella has revealed on Radio Univers’ Brunch2Lunch that there is money in music.

The “Rock my Body” hit maker who records her songs in Ghana and masters most of them in South Africa for the international market told the host, Abrantepa that, “There is money in music but it is only when you are serious and brand yourself well. People will then take you serious, and you can benefit financially from it.”

She noted though that, stage performances are not as rewarding as many may think because they could be deceptive.

“I do a lot of corporate gigs because that is where the money is," she said.

Adding, “You normally do not see me on the hyped shows because it can be tricky. Sometimes you are asked to come for the money later only for them to forget about you."

"On other occasions, you have to beg even before you climb the stage. So I would rather do the corporate shows where I get my money instantly,” she said.

Wiyaala has three nominations at the 2014 All Africa Music Awards.
