The apparent refusal of radio presenters to play Wutah’s new single, ‘AK47’ after the duo heeded to counsel from music lovers and influential people, some of whom are in the media, to forget their differences and come back as a group, is a clear case of hypocrisy, Managing Editor of Flex Newspaper, Sammy Flex asserts.
Wutah who were once a formidable unit that churned out quality music cemented news of their comeback after almost seven years of going their separate ways with ‘AK47’ produced by Ceedigh.
Unfortunately, the song appears not to have been given the attention it deserves as it has not received massive airplay despite being a nice tune, abrantepa.com has observed.
Coming up for discussion on 3FM’s Showbiz927, Sammy Flex who was a panelist on the show indicated that the media has failed Wutah as it has ignored the music group.
“The media has pushed that agenda [for Wutah to come back]. They have come back, put out a single but ask yourself how many people are even pushing the song for them. That is why Paa Kwesi Dobble is saying considering what is happening to Wutah, he is not thinking of reuniting with his brother, Enwai. Ask yourself how good is the song? If the song is bad and people are not supporting them, then we cannot blame the people. I keep saying the media has taste; if you don’t meet it, forget. If the song is good and really we are not paying attention to it, then I must say we have all failed, we are all hypocrites,” he told Nana Kwadwo Addo, host of the show.
“Wutah is under NKZ Music group; so you ask yourself, ‘is it because they are on that label that is why people are not giving them that respect? Or is it because there is a management member somewhere who is not functioning well?’ These are questions we should be asking. But I think no matter which answer we will get, the media has failed. We were calling for the comeback of the group, they went through different, decided to come back. It beholds on you and I to do something to encourage them so they stay together forever,” he added.
Wutah came into the limelight in 2004 when the group contested for the Nescafe Africa Revelation music competition in Accra and came second to Praye.
After becoming a household name, they separated in 2009 and started recording their solo projects. While Kobby released songs like ‘Chiochio’, ‘Father for All’, ‘Pii Por Pii,’ and ‘Warning’, Afriyie released songs like ‘Love of My Life’, ‘I Do’, ‘Tontonti’ and ‘Here to Stay.
