Former Ghanaian actor, Abeiku Nyame, popularly known as Jagga Pee has revealed that he almost committed suicide on several occasions during his stay at the Nsawam prison.

“I wanted to poison myself, I wanted to kill myself at the Nsawam prisons with azar – a cleaning detergent – … very powerful but anytime I made an attempt people will be around”.

Jagga Pee, it would be recalled, was charged alongside a music star, Geeman, in 1995 following a shooting incident at the CFC Flats, Dome in Accra, where a taxi driver was killed.

Geeman was sentenced to death while Jagga Pee also got a life sentence but former President John Agyekum Kufuor's amnesty in commemoration of the country's 48th independence anniversary was extended to Jagga Pee who immediately relocated to the UK.

In 2006 he was arrested by British security agencies, following his suspected involvement in a financial misdemeanor in London. He was later deported from Britain.

Speaking on “Veteran Thursday” on the Starr Drive, with Anita Erskine and Bola Ray, Jagga Pee who was a bread baker in London stated that he had no idea that the people he was living with were dealing in narcotics.

“I lost my job and I couldn’t pay my rent so I had to go and live with this man… he had known me for some time… and I never knew he was involved in this kind of thing… I never knew he was into that before the raid happened… and I was picked up”.

He narrated that; “One Police in uniform and another not in a uniform came to the house to look for my friend but I told them that he had gone to work so they wanted to carry a search… and they saw my passport and my visa which had expired so they called immigration and I was deported”.

The troubled star recounting his harrowing experience in jail stated he holds no grudge with Geeman, adding that he has forgiven him for playing a role in him being imprisoned.

Jagga Pee said he, however, consoled himself with the fact that he had sympathisers from all over the world.

He also admonished the young actors to be disciplined and not allow the fame get into their heads if they want to be successful in the movie industry.
