Newly wedded rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, known to all as Sarkodie, who is a Ghanaian rapper in an exclusive interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz Fm today, aired that he isn’t part of GHAMRO.
The Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) is a non-profit corporate body (limited by guarantee) and therefore all fees collected are distributed among the right owners whose works have been used, in this instance composers, authors and producers, publishers in proportion to the use made of their works.
The role of the organization in the industry is vital but a handful of artistes don’t see why they should join with the inadequate structures not being in-place for operations to be carried out by the organization and it has been revealed to all of us today that Ghana’s finest rapper Sarkodie isn’t a member of this organization.
King Sark made this shocking revelation in an interview with Andy Dosty today, where he was asked if he was a member of GHAMRO but he replied with honesty that he isn’t.
One would wonder why. Well, in the course of the interview, Angel Town who happens to be the manager of Sarkodie revealed that one day he had a call from GHAMRO concerning Sark’s royalties and he eavesdropped on another caller saying Nana Ampadu is taking GHC 350 as royalties so which got him puzzled as to how much will Sarkodie be taking?
Your guess is as good as mine, but do you think the decision by Angel to leave Sark out of GHAMRO was a good one?
