Ghanaian Afrobeats musician King Promise has opened up on the controversy he faced after he made some false claims about the population sizes of Ghana and the Nigerian city of Lagos.

King Promise came under fire in October 2025 after he was captured in a viral video in an interaction with Nigerian streamer Peller stating that “Lagos is bigger than Ghana.”

The video sparked reactions across social media, with various netizens lambasting the ‘Paris” hitmaker.

King Promise later responded with a picture of him with a geography book.

Opening up about the picture, King Promise, in an interview with Hitz FM, stated, “I was learning. I was fixing my geography knowledge. It was Mr Eazi’s idea.”

Speaking on the comment he made, King Promise stated that he meant it as a harmless statement he had always heard as a child and did not intend to undermine Ghana in any way.

“I didn’t expect it to go the way it went. It was a harmless take. I felt like it’s something that we’ve all heard growing up. But I didn’t mean it,” he said.

He clarified his comment, stating that, “I was speaking in terms of Nigeria being bigger than Ghana population-wise, which is why their artistes have the wider international reach.”
