Though other ageing movie stars feel disappointed taking acting as profession because they live a wretched life today, seasoned actress Akorfa Edjeani Asiedu says she has not regretted taken up the career.
“I’ve not regretted acting but I hope to see things getting better for all us. I don’t want it to be like the veteran footballers who didn’t get anything. We’ve to benefit from it before our days come to an end. I’m happy with my profession, I have no regrets at all.”
Speaking to host of Kasapa Entertainment, Kojo Preko Dankwa on Kasapa 102.5Fm last Saturday, the veteran actress said though she is not comfortable with what she earns as an actress yet she is content with the pleasure that she gets from the movie career.
“For people who know me, they know that I’m not the money conscious type so even though I haven’t made money from acting, the job satisfaction is good for now but I do need to make money because once you’re on this earth you need money to pay bills and do other stuff too….. Yes we need to make money out of it and I don’t think is too late, I know things are going to turn around… the future looks bright.”
When asked if she will retire from acting, she remarked, “For actors we don’t retire, If you’re 90years, there’s still a role for them.”
She bemoaned reasons why movie makers these days don’t use the right people for the right role as lack of money hence young actors are makeup to take up roles of aged people.
“When you tell a businessman to invest in a movie it’s so difficult because there’s no industry but we’re trying to build one, gradually it will be there… there’s no infrastructure so what do you call the industry.”
Akorfa Edjeani Asiedu commented that producing movies these days have become capital intensive that most investors are now reluctant to put in their resources because there are few cinemas to premiere the movies.
Akorfa Edjeani Asiedu has produced films like Life in Slow Motion, Children of the Mountain, and I Sing of A Well.
