I don’t work with superstars because of their egos – Hammer

Record producer, Edward Nana Poku Osei, popularly known as Da’ Hammer has asserted that the reason he does not work with artistes who have already excelled is their inability to drop their egos.

The boss of The Last Two Music Group in an interview with Doreen Andoh on Joy FM’s Cosmopolitan Mix, Friday, remarked that these artistes may not find his comments on their studio sessions palatable should they not get things right.

According to Hammer, he is not diplomatic in his critique regardless of who an artiste came to the studio with.

“I always bring them from the ground and build them. I don’t want to work with superstars because they come into the studio with their egos. They come with girls. I will disgrace you. If you are rapping and not doing it well, I will tell you right in the face. I will diss you. So they don’t want to risk that,” he noted.

Hammer advised artistes not to be carried away by fame but be ready to accept criticisms.

“If you are a star, when it’s time for you to go to the studio, forget about your stardom. Leave it behind. That is very difficult for them to do,” he said.

The forty-year old is known for grooming many artistes who have subsequently become stars in Ghana. The list includes Obrafour, Edem, Kwaw Kese, Sarkodie, Okra and Tinny.

He has compilation albums including the Execution Diary (2003), Sounds of Our Time (2004) and The Crusade of the Lost Files (2006) to his credit.
