Six years after winning an award at the 2011 Ghana Movie Awards for her role in Adams Apple, veteran Ghanaian actress Grace Nortey says she is yet to receive her plague.

She was announced as the Best Cameo Actress” for her role in the Shirley Frimpong Manso’s award-winning movie, Adams Apples at the time that she was in the United States.

Speaking Onua 95.1 FM entertainment talk show Anigye Mmre, the actress said she has made several attempts to get the organisers to release the plague to her but to no avail.

“The one who picked the award on my behalf said as soon as the plaque was presented to her, they [organisers] took the plaque from her when she got to the backstage. The organizers presented it to another person”

“I have made several effort speaking to Fred Nuamah the founder of Ghana Movie Awards to give me the plaque but all my effort have proven futile. Two years ago, I met Fred Nuamah, I asked him about my plaque and he told me he is preparing the plaques for some of the winners so he will give mine to me when they are ready and till date I have not received the plaque” Grace Nortey told Christian Agyei Frimpong, host of the show.

Several other winners of the GMA award have complained about the delays in releasing their plagues to them but the organisers appear unperturbed about their embarrassing attitude.

In 2014, Mr. Nuamah told the Razz entertainment newspaper that the delays are as a result of inscribing the names of award winners on the plague.

He explained what was given to the winners on stage were dummies.

“We at GMA want to put the names of the winners on the statuettes and since the winners are not predetermined, we can only put the names on after the awards, so, what we usually give them on the night of the awards show are dummies,” he explained at the time.

But almost four years after that, some winners including the veteran actress have still not received their plagues raising questions as to how long it takes to inscribe a name on a plague.

“I’m hurt I have not received my plaque and I have decided not to ask Fred Nuamah for the plaque again,” Grace Nortey said.

The veteran actress who became a household name in the movie industry in the 1990s starred in movies like Lost Hope, Dza Gbele, Idikoko’s Matters of the Heart, Sekina, Expectations, Jewels and Juju, among others.
