Bertha Yaayaa Kankam, known in music as Yaa Yaa has revealed that she gave the self-acclaimed ‘Best Rapper Alive’ a tough time before agreeing to do the song.

In an interview on GH Today on GhOne TV, the 26 –year-old singer-songwriter who sang the hook and bridge in popular song ‘Faithful’ said Okyeame Kwame called her several times before she went to the studio. She kept giving him excuses like she was in school and that she was busy.

The singer admitted that the song shot her to huge popularity. Although she had emerged winner of the fourth edition of Stars of the Future, she said that not many people really knew her before the song. But since the release of the song, she has gained many fans and has performed on big platforms.

During the interview, the talented singer who is also an actress talked about having her own band but not a studio. She also said that unlike popular opinion, music actually pays, going ahead to say that she lived on what she made from music.

This prompted Kafui Dey, the host, to ask her how she much she charged for a performance. Yaa Yaa said it depended on what kind of show. She said some event organizers wanted you to perform in the background throughout a dinner or meeting.

Some others wanted you to perform for only 5 minutes so it all depended on what kind of show and if she was coming in with her band.

Yaa yaa said she grew up surrounded by a family that had members playing guitar and singing, and that her choreographer is her sister who majored in dance and theatre in school.

Yaa Yaa advised fellow musicians to keep it simple and share their music.
