I hope 13-member GHAMRO board performs well - Samini

Dancehall artiste Emmanuel Andrews Samini known in showbiz as 'Samini' has expressed hope that the newly sworn in 13-member board of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) performs incredibly to the admiration of musicians.

He said the board members cannot in anyway afford to disappoint musicians and Ghanaians as a whole by performing abysmally.

‘Well for a board that is made up of 13 people, I think its obvious there is going to be lots of deliberations in any sort of decisions or conclusions they will make, it should work, it should help. You can’t have 13 bias or incompetent people in one room, so once you have such a number of people, you know, knocking heads and tapping into brains to make decisions and policies for our royalties. I only hope that they don’t make some of us regret statements like this on air,’ he stated.

Speaking with Naa Klordey on Ultimate FM’s E-Review, he said its a step in the right direction a decision by the new GHAMRO board to collect royalties to improve the lot of musicians.

‘I think its a good step, and they should be quick in implementing that (idea), so that it starts work as soon as possible, because we have been waiting for too long to have a system that can pay as back when they see our work. If GHAMRO has reached where its going to make things work, we can’t wait,’ he said.

He called on his fans to buy his new song titled ‘my own’ by downloading it from itunes.

Some Ghanaian musicians have been fighting with GHAMRO for some years now over disbursement of royalties.

The new GHAMRO board members chaired by Rex Omar include:

Ahmed Banda – First Vice chair

Diana Hopeson – second vice chair

James Nana Tuffour – Composer

Nana K. O Duah- Composer

Augustina Addison – Composer

Oheneba Kissi – Composer

Bessa Simmons – Composer
