Aspiring MUSIGA President Appiah Dankwah known in the showbiz industry as Appietus has reiterated that the only way the government can reward artists who win international awards as they do to footballers and athletes is to brand the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) like the Ghana Football Association (GFA ).
The award winning sound engineer was answering a question about why the government doesn't reward musicians who win international awards as they do to footballers or athletes.
He spoke with Dr. Who, host of hot and classic showbiz review on Hot 93.9FM:
"Everything is possible. What I have realised about the government is, when they see something beneficial to them, they add it into their manifesto. The biggest united front when it comes to musicians in Ghana is MUSIGA whether we like it or not.
So we have to create the interest for people to join it. When we create the united front and have the numbers, the government will listen to us. The only difference is that GFA is a united front. They've made it compulsory for their members to join. We can also make it like that", Appietus lamented.
Appietus added that uniting the union by making it compulsory for every musician to join is his biggest priority.
"I was billed to clear my musical equipment at a sum of Ghc30.000, I then realised am a member of MUSIGA so I called Obour then he gave me a letter head that I surprisingly cleared my goods for free. How many musicians know this? So when we are united the government can also listen to us", he said.
