Popular gospel artiste Nicholas Omane Acheampong has indicated he has no intention of lending his support to any political party either through his compositions or public declarations.

The Zaphenath Paneah man explained that putting one’s hopes in politicians would always amount to nothing, for which reason he – with a sole reliance on God – would not nail his colours to the mast of any political party.

With presidential and parliamentary elections due December 7, electioneering has intensified with some showbiz personalities publicly endorsing politicians. Musicians Kwabena Kwabena, Wisa, Dada KD, Praye, A-Plus, Lucky Mensah, among others, have endorsed the candidature of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2016 polls while actor John Dumelo and songstress Mzbel are campaigning to have Mr John Mahama retained as president.

But asked in an interview by host Andy Favoured on Gospel 360 on Accra100.5FM if he would accept an offer by any political party to endorse its campaign, the musician, who won Gospel Song of the Year with hit track Aporsor, responded in the negative.

“I do not campaign for any party. …The God I follow is the greatest. As for the political parties, they can disappoint you within a twinkle of an eye, so, I do not campaign for any political party and I will never do that. But if a party wishes to use any of my songs for its campaign … I invested money in composing it, so, if they give me something for my efforts no problem…

“But to rework the song [to suit a party’s campaign] as others do, I will never do that.”

However, he said he was open to an invitation to sing at any party event for a fee.

“If they would pay me, I will mount the platform as a professional artiste and perform and take my money and leave. They (political parties) will have to run their own campaign,” the Tabitha Kum singer stated.
