Ghanaian hip-hop musician Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, also known as D-Black, has suggested that if he were to become the Minister for Tourism, Arts & Culture in Ghana, he would shut down music unions such as MUSIGA, GHAMRO, and COSGA.
In an interview on GhanaWeb's "Takertainment" with Elsie Lamar, he expressed that these organisations are in disarray and require proper restructuring.
He stated, "First thing we don't have a royalty collection society that is accountable, so I will shut down MUSIGA, GHAMRO, and COSGA and restructure a new body to take over because the royalty collection society of Ghana isn't doing what they are supposed to do".
"MUSIGA as well... We have seen different presidents come and go but there is nothing we can speak about at the top of our voices that this body has done some tangible for musicians in our country."
D-Black also stated that he would educate industry players, particularly artiste managers, on how to create successful businesses within the music industry.
"I will educate the music industry, especially business executives on how the industry has changed over the years.. A lot of artists have managers who they trust.. childhood friends, a lot of training have to be done to make our industry viable" he added.
