“I’m an actor and I’ll work with anybody and everybody if the story is good and the co-actors are also good with a good director,” Veteran actress Akorfa Edjeani Asiedu revealed her interest to act in local Twi movie.

Movie producer/actress Akorfa Edjeani Asiedu has said she wouldn’t hesitate to gladly star in Kumasi-based films popularly called Kumawood movies if the story-line and co acts are good with an experienced director.

In an interview on Kasapa Entertainment with Kojo Preko Dankwa on Kasapa 102.5Fm, the seasoned actress admitted that Ghanaian movies done in local Twi dialect (Kumawood Movies) are hugely patronised, reaches a wider audience and actors are more creative as they are articulate in their mother tongue.

Commenting on Agya Koo’s acting creativity, she said, “Agya Koo if given a good director will do fantastic but when he’s left to do his own thing, he will do his thing…. So to get a good production, you need a good script and director.”

Akorfa appealed to local Twi film makers to minimise the frequent use of witchcraft stories in their movies, adding that audience intelligence shouldn’t be underestimated with same story-line.

“My only problem that most people misunderstand me is about the witch stories in the Local Twi Movies which are becoming rampant. If we’ve other stories we’ve to use them but I don’t fault them since it’s an individual thing if that’s the story you want to do, it’s your camera and your money too… nobody is wrong and nobody is right because it borders on talents and is free range for everybody but I’m just appealing to film makers to look at the content we’re bringing out. If that’s what many people patronise then it’s probably because that’s all you’re giving the audience. For me I think we’re underestimating the intelligence of the audience, you give them something else and see if they won’t start loving that too but doesn’t mean that I won’t be in a movie that has witchcraft but should be tactfully done.”

The skilled and celebrated actress, also admonished Government, stakeholders and individuals to place value on arts and film making in the country.

“If we understand what the arts and film making can do for the country then we’ve to prioritize them.”

She urged government to make readily available financial support or create enabling environment for others to help with their resources to boost the film and arts industry in Ghana.
