Ghanaian rapper and Tema-based artiste, Yaa Pono has described himself as a ‘town boy’ and not a celebrity as many have perceived him to be.
According to the ‘Obia Wo Ne master’ hitmaker, though he is well known in Ghana, West Africa and some parts of the world, he won’t allow the fame he’s enjoying to take away the fact that he came from the streets before he made his way through to the top.
Ponobiom who was in Kumasi over the weekend for the VGMA Nominees jam humbly described himself in an interview with Kumasi-based Nhyira FM that he is a “town boy” and not celebrity especially when he is in Kumasi where he kick-started his career.
“Most of my fans in Kumasi didn’t know we could reach this far because we started life from the scratch,” Yaa Porno said.
“Apart from a musician being a celebrity, we are town boys. We are street boys so you must see me not as a celebrity but the people’s person who's back and to rebase with the people”
Talking about his performance at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Award (VGMA) Nominees jam at the Kumasi City Mall which happened on Saturday 6th April 2019, Ponobiom it was an experience he will forever cherish after the love shown him by the people of Kumasi.
Touted as one of the hilarious and loved rappers in Ghana with his unique style of freestyles, Yaa Pono is well noted for tormenting Shatta Wale in his famous ‘Gbee Nabu’ diss song.
The VGMA Nominees jams were packed with energetic performances from Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and others.
