Gospel musician Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong, popularly known as Great Ampong, has stated that he never, at any point, bad-mouthed the late Highlife singer Daddy Lumba, despite years of public criticism.

Great Ampong explained in an interview on UTV Ghana aired on March 28, 2026, that he was measured in his comments and only sought to retrieve money he claims was owed to him.

He further noted that if he had said anything inappropriate, he would by now have regretted it, especially following the singer’s passing.

On the issue of the alleged debt, Ampong declined to go into details when asked whether he had been paid, stating that he stopped discussing the matter in 2023.

“I never bad-mouthed Daddy Lumba; I was just demanding my money. If I had said anything unwarranted about him, I’m sure I would regret it now, but that never happened,” Great Ampong said.

How Great Ampong and Lumba’s feud started

In 2015, Great Ampong and Highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, collaborated on a joint album titled Hosanna.

Speaking in a 2016 interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso, Ampong said it was Daddy Lumba who initiated the collaboration after reaching out to him as a fan of his work.

“He called me on the phone and said he was a fan of my work and would like us to collaborate on a project. He invited me to his house, and we had a discussion,” he noted.

The album had eight songs, but Ampong claimed he wrote six of them.

While the project was well received, Ampong said the aftermath of the launch led to their fallout.

According to him, Daddy Lumba allegedly took the proceeds from the event without sharing any with him, despite the resources he had invested in the launch.

He also alleged that Lumba uploaded all the songs from the project onto his personal accounts on digital music platforms.

Over the years, Ampong has repeatedly spoken about the issue on various platforms, expressing his disappointment over what he describes as unfair treatment by the legendary Highlife musician.
