Veteran highlife musician, Rex Omar, has said he had no amorous relationship with fellow musician Akosua Agyapong and never thought of marrying her.
Rex Omar explained that he was already married before he teamed up with Amandzeba Nat Brew and Akosua Agyapong to form NAKOREX as a result of the three being under one record label despite all of them having successful solo careers at the time.
Nat Brew later married Akosua Agyapong but their union collapsed.
Responding to a question about his relationship with Akosua Agyapong on the Touch of Class, on Class91.3FM on Thursday, 31 May 2018, Rex Omar said: “No! I didn’t want to marry Akosua Agyapong. Akosua is more or less like my sister and even before NAKOREX, I was already engaged with Abiba.”
He told show host Natalia Anadoh that: “I married very early, so, before we came together as NAKOREX, Abiba was there, so, there was no way and since then, the three of us are still friends, even on Wednesday May 30, I was with Amandzeba Nat Brew the whole day, Amandzeba has been like my senior brother”.
Rex Omar said he has four children, three girls and one boy, “with Abiba my wife”. According to him, he is very principled and very much attached to music, hence not distracted by women.
“I think, perhaps, I’m too much married to my music, so, it took my attention from women,” Rex Omar, whose ‘Abiba’ song became a hit noted.
Rex Omar is an award-winning singer, songwriter and arranger. He is currently chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) and a member of the Joint Committee of Collective Management Organisations (JCCMOs).
