Highlife artiste Kuami Eugene has refuted claims he stole excerpts of Davido’s 'Aye' for the composition of his first single for 2020, 'Turn Up'.

Mounting a spirited defense in an interview with TV3’s MzGee, the reigning Ghana Music Awards Highlife Artiste of the Year said, “There is not even a single feel of Davido in my ‘Turn Up’ song. Besides the key is high and Davido never sings in high keys…”

Kuami Eugene has on countless occasions been accused of song theft. First, it was ‘Angela’, then ‘Confusion’ and ‘Wish Me Well’.

Prior to the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), he was accused of stealing lyrics for his verse on the theme song titled ‘Our Music Lives’ as some persons claimed his verse was sampled from a song titled ‘Ragamuffin’ by a female Jamaican Dancehall artiste, Koffee.

On all occasions, Kuami Eugene seemed unperturbed as he argued that he is unfazed by the accusations.

“The things they say do not affect me in anyway, I am not surprised at all. These are people who do the same thing to everybody even to their family members.

"They have done this to a lot of musicians, the Ofori Amponsahs and co have all had their share of these kind of accusations so it is not really a big deal for me,” he told Graphic Showbiz some months ago.

Meanwhile, the Lynx Entertainment act has rubbished claims he released ‘Turn Up’ barely a day after MzVee’s ‘Sheriff’ with the intent of sabotaging the promotion of the female singer who parted ways with the label months ago.

He told MzGee, that the release was a mere coincidence while stressing that the claims are unjustified, to say the least.

“The fact that we all had plans to release the same month [doesn’t suggest so]. I released ‘Obiaato’ and that very day, Sarkodie released ‘Party and Bullshit’… I didn’t even know she [MzVee] was about to release her song. We all have plans,” he said.
