Travel and Tourism Specialist, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana has expressed his excitement about the introduction of hot air balloon in Ghana.

The radio presenter who was part of persons selected to experience Cowbell’s maiden hot air balloon tour in Ghana noted that he never expected it.

Abeiku Santana who revealed that joining the flight in Elmina was not his first as he has already had the experience in Kenya and South Africa, was glad the concerned state agencies had given the needed approval for flying hot air balloons in Ghana.

“I have never thought that we can have hot air balloon in Ghana, so I was like really is that possible. Then I got more confident when the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, National Security and all the state agencies concerned have given approval so I’m ready for it,” the Kaya Tours CEO noted.

Sharing his expectations before the flight, Abeiku Santana said he looked forward to seeing how Elmina and its surroundings looked from the balloon above and his reaction afterwards was evident that he wasn’t disappointed.

The maiden flights of the ‘Cowbell in the Sky’ project took place from May 12 to May 19 with Promasidor Ghana Ltd urging Ghanaians to watch out for the next tour of the hot air balloon which will be in October.

The hot air balloon is an aircraft consisting of a large bag, called an envelope, which contains heated air. Suspended beneath this is a gondola or wicker basket, which carries both passengers and a source of fuel to burn in order to heat up the air in the envelope.

The heated air inside the envelope causes the balloon to fly since it has a lower density than the colder air outside the envelope.

The first passenger-carrying hot air balloon was built by the brothers; Josef and Etienne Montgolfier in France in 1783. Since then, hot air balloons have been used for transportation and recreation all over the world.
