I quit school because I wanted to follow my passion – Socrates Safo

Ghanaian veteran filmmaker Socrates Sarfo has revealed that he was unable to further his education because he wanted to follow his dream of becoming a filmmaker.

Speaking in an interview with Attractive Mustapha, Mr Sarfo said “I quit school because I wanted to follow my passion, I was in a technical school to be an Auto Mechanic but I was sure that was not my passion because I’m not technically inclined. At that time, I was more into Arts and that’s the mistake my father did".

He continued that he was enrolled in a technical school for four years but cannot at this point in his life recount any meaningful skills he learnt.

Recounting some moments in his primary school days, he said "I picked the story and did plays on them and show it in the evening for the kids in my area and this is where the interest was initiated”.

For over 30 years in filmmaking, he said no regrets can be counted so far.

... “What am I going to do in the university? What was I going to do at the university? You don’t need to go to the university to learn how to make film, I don’t need a certificate to shoot a movie, You don’t need a certificate to be successful, you need to be smart to be successful, Anyone I have worked with, I don’t check certificate."
