Ras Kuuku calls for Ghana to adopt better football development models
Ghanaian musician Ras Kuuku has expressed disappointment in the Black Stars’ performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, rating the team’s showing 30 out of 100.
Speaking in an interview on Max FM, Ras Kuuku said Ghana’s inability to score more than two goals after playing four matches at the tournament was a major concern that required urgent attention.
He explained that although he is a musician, he has followed football for some time and believes Ghana’s football authorities must consider adopting strategies used by countries that have developed successful football systems.
Ras Kuuku urged Ghana to study Japan’s approach to football development, stressing that lessons from their long-term planning and structure could help improve the country’s football.
He added that even if Ghana cannot directly adopt Japan’s model, the country can also look at Morocco’s football system and learn from their progress.
“My impression of Ghana’s performance at the World Cup is 30/100. Going into a tournament, playing four matches and scoring only one goal is very concerning, and it is something they need to work on. Although I am a musician, I follow football closely, and I believe if the system is not working, we can learn from countries like Japan, who have built a strong football structure. Even if we cannot go to Japan, we can study Morocco’s system and learn from their approach,” he said.

The musician further called on authorities to improve football infrastructure across the country, particularly the development of stadia, arguing that each of Ghana’s 16 regions should have at least one standard stadium to support the growth of the sport.
He also stressed the need to strengthen colts football, warning that without proper attention to grassroots development, Ghana may struggle to produce generational talents like former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah.
The Black Stars, making their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance, reached the knockout stage for the first time since the 2010 tournament before their campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.
Ghana will now shift focus to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin in September, with the Black Stars drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, Gambia and Somalia.
