CEO Of Media Excel Production, Kwasi Ernest has blamed himself for failing to seal deals with his Artistes.
The artiste manager claimed passion has always been his motivation in managing gospel artistes.
Kwasi Ernest was speaking on why most gospel artistes do not regard contracts as working documents between them and their managers on Christian Entertainment Review show on Faith TV.
According to Manager of SP Kofi Sarpong, most unpopular artistes pretend to be humble but after the manager has invested so much into their brand to make them popular, they rather set precedent for their managers to follow.
“One of the biggest mistakes of my life in terms of artiste manager and producer was the fact that I didn’t make contract as one of my most important background of my work. I was too passionate about my job than the legal aspect of it. Secondly, you’ll put trust in people because you’ll look at a young artiste and how he or she becomes humble when they need help.
“I think those fake praises from unknown gospel artistes make you become emotional about the drive to push the person. Not forgetting that every struggling person has a hidden agenda. When such artistes see their music videos on Television, they would never bother to ask what is the cost for an airplay or the clothes and shoes you buy for them and they become successful, they will approach the manager to ask what their share is.
“We (Artistes Managers) have allowed certain things to happen to us. At my level as an artiste manager, I should have put strong legal terms.” Kwasi Ernest disclosed on Faith TV.
When asked if artistes inform their managers before moving to a different record label, Ernest replied, “Not all artistes will tell you they are moving. At times people hear it and call you the manager to verify.”
Kwasi Ernest who is currently managing Abena Ruthy, SP Kofi Sarpong, Francis Adjei, Hannah Aba Donkor has also managed and produced great gospel musicians like Bernice Offei, Ohemaa Mercy, Rev Yawson, Joyce Blessing, Stella Seal and many others.
