I tried committing suicide while in jail - Showboy recounts

Ghanaian socialite Samuel Safo, popularly known as Showboy, has disclosed his frustration while in jail after being arrested for stabbing the late Junior US.

In an interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso on the Delay Show on November 23, 2024, Showboy noted that he felt he had disappointed his parents which made him try taking his life.

Showboy emphasised that all his attempts to take his own life proved futile.

"When I was sentenced to do fifteen years, I asked my cellmates and the years they were spending inside motivated me a bit. An inmate called me a monkey, and it provoked me to fight him. I was then taken to the bunker. I stayed there for fourteen days without contacting anyone. The food they gave me was a mess.

"I had to fall in love with myself because I was thinking of killing myself. My mother didn't even know I was in prison but I knew someone might tell her because the news went worldwide. I tore the bedsheet they gave me to form a rope and hang myself. I tried so many times but I couldn't do it. I was filled with regret," he said.

In addition, Showboy disclosed how he remained active on social media despite being in prison and revealed that he was dating a prison officer during his time behind bars.

"I had a prison officer who was my girlfriend. So I woke up one morning and my phone was under my pillow. They had written on it, call this number. That was how I was able to come online. But my cell mates beat me and took it from me. That phone cost around $5,000 in prison I am not kidding. How things cost inside the jail differs from outside," he added.

Background

Showboy was arrested after an altercation with Junior US in the United States in 2019.

Earlier in a discussion with Fifii Pratt on Kingdom FM while detailing how things ensued between them, he noted that Junior US was not his friend and he immediately showed his dislike for him when Criss Waddle first introduced them.

Showboy revealed that Junior US was supposed to give him some amount of money but instead of the money, he brought in some laptops that he (Showboy) should sell them.

This resulted in a brawl where Junior US confronted him with a knife, then proceeded to attack him violently, leaving him (Showboy) no choice but to retaliate.

The socialite during a brawl with Junior US stabbed him, however, he claimed that he had no involvement in Junior US's death. Showboy said Junior died as a result of attacks from some ladies as reported in the news.
