Celebrities bleaching to lighten their skin has been a growing trend over the years. Many of these celebrities accused of bleaching have either flatly denied or assigned different reasons for bleaching.
One of such celebrities is Ghanaian musician Mzbel. Known in real life at Belinda Nana Akua Amoah, Mzbel has explained why she decided to bleach her skin many years ago.
She recounted in a post on her Instagram page sighted by Ghanaweb, that she had horrible effects after she bleached, prompting her to seek help.
She said she felt she was ugly, she thought the colour black was dirty and so she decided to lighten her skin.
According to Mzbel, she has now embraced her blackness, and she is over the self-hate she used to feel.
“I used to think I was ugly. I thought being black is dirty, so I took to skin bleaching and suffered horrible side effects years later. But that is the result of self-hate. I shared my story and got help, now I’ve learned to say: ‘You know what? I am a beautiful black woman. FanteKrobo, 100% Ghanaian ???????? #Goddess #IndependentWoman #EkuaBentuma".
