I wear made in Ghana products to showcase talents - Samira Bawumia

In Ghana's fashion world, we have slayers and yes the queen of slayers - these people never get it wrong with their sense of fashion.

Names like Nana Akua Addo, Zynnel Zuh, Nana Ama McBrown are always on the lips of fashionistas for their effortless ways in glamouring themselves.

Ghana's Second Lady, Mrs. Samira Bawumia is loved for her high sense of fashion and has since been crowned the 'Queen of slayers' by some Ghanaians.

The beautiful woman and mother four was adjudged Style Icon of 2017 at the third edition of the Glitz Style Awards last year.

Speaking on Starr FM, monitored by Ghanaweb, the former Beauty Queen explained why she chooses adventurous, creative designs which are made in Ghana products for occasions.

She says wearing made in Ghana outfits is to showcase our talents and boosting the Fashion industry.

"It is a celebration of what we have in Ghana. Almost what I wear is made in Ghana and they are exquisite designs that our Ghanaians make. The people who make clothes for me have seen their businesses grow. For me, it's showcasing Ghanaian fabrics, talent and boosting the industry".

Last year, in an interview with Daily Guide, Ghanaian millinery and clutch designer, Velma Owusu Bempah, Velma Owusu Bempah, one of the designers for Samira Bawumia said it is a great opportunity for her to design for the vice president’s wife.

According to her, it always feels special when such high-profile personalities in the society approach her for business.

“It makes us feel special because before people of that nature come to you, they know, I mean they look out for you. So making a choice to come for you, then they know they are coming for a good quality stuff,” she said.

An unparalleled figure in Ghana’s fashion scene, Velma Owusu Bempah is a distinguished milliner and women’s clutch and jewellery designer for over a decade.

The UK-trained millinery and clutch designer is one of the country’s best. She is the designer behind the clutch used by Samira Bawumia to complete her beautiful outfit and headpiece during the ‘Ghana 60 years On’ parade on March 6.
