Vision DJ has disclosed that he will be surprised if his song titled ‘Grand’ featuring A.I does not win the Afro-pop song category at this year’s edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).

‘Grand’ is competing in that category with some very good songs from some of Ghana’s finest musicians, including ‘Kaabu Ame’ by E.L, ‘Solo’ by Article Wan, ‘Dance For Me’ by Eugy featuring Mr Eazi, ‘Too Late’ by Adina, ‘Too Risky’ by Medikal featuring Sister Derby and ‘U & Me’ by Joey B.

“I feel proud for being nominated and I am praying that I win because I deserve it. At least, I am expecting to win. If I don’t win, I don’t know what to say but yeah I will be surprised,” Vision DJ told NEWS-ONE.

Meanwhile, an Afro-pop song is defined as a song adjudged by the VGMA academy, board and the general public as the most popular song that is a cross pollination of music genres. The song must have generated the most excitement during the year under review.

The song which wins should be able to attract the highest number of votes in its category, and there are three tiers of voting; 40 percent from the general public, 30 percent from the VGMA board and 30 percent from the VGMA academy.

“But I need votes to win so I’m urging the fans to text R7 Afro-Pop Song of The Year Grind to the text code 1767,” Vision DJ added.

Vision DJ, born Francis Essah Aboagye, is believed to be the first Ghanaian DJ to be nominated for the VGMAs since its inception some 18 years ago.

The award-winning radio, club and event DJ does his talking through his music, showcasing his talent and passion for music. He started disk jocking during his secondary school years at Koforidua Sec-Tech.

He later enrolled at the Central University College in Tema, where he read Banking and Finance. He continued pursuing his career in the music industry throughout college, and played on Vibe FM (now Live FM) from 2007 to 2009, before joining YFM.

Currently, he is one of the few DJs with hit songs and award nominations to his credit.

Vision DJ got four nominations for the upcoming 2017 Ghana DJ Awards in the categories; best DJ of the year, DJ’s song of the year, night club DJ of the year and DJ/artiste collabo of the year. He also got nomination at the 2017 Ghana Music Honours Best DJ category. He currently also has a new hot song titled ‘Double Trouble’ with Sarkodie and King Promise.
