Artiste Manager and CEO of Bullhaus Entertainment, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson also known in showbiz as Bulldog says he will drive around Ghana to collect his royalties.
Bulldog, who manages dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, made the comments in reference to the discrepancies in an audit report of the former management board of the Ghana Music Right Owners (GHAMRO).
Some members of the Carlos Sakyi-led GHAMRO board have been given four weeks to account for more than GH?1 million said to have been misapplied.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, Bulldog who was very emotional about the purported rot by the former administration suggested the laws of GHAMRO be amended so that all music right owners would be responsible for the collection of their monies.
The artiste manager’s comments come on the back of the fact that musicians and music producers distribute their own music and for that matter should be allowed to collect their monies. He also alleges that the administrators seem incompetent to run their affairs.
However, GHAMRO is the only music royalty collection society in Ghana. They collect royalties from restaurants, commercial vehicles, event organizers, radio and TV stations, night clubs, drinking bars, etc. who use music commercially.
The former management board headed by Carlos Sekyi was asked to step aside on July 11, 2014 by a Human Rights Court is said to have allegedly overstayed their tenure and failed to organise any Annual General Meetings (AGM) since 2012.
They were given an ultimatum after an audit finding by Eddy Nii Koi accounting consultancy firm on the books of accounts during the Carlos-led administration of GHAMRO from December 19, 2014 to either respond to the audit findings or account for the monies.
Former members of the board, Mark Okraku Mantey and Rex Omar have been exonerated by the audit.
