The Greater Accra regional branch Chairman of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Ras Caleb Appiah Levi, has launched his manifesto with a promise to change the structures of MUSIGA and make it attractive for musicians.

2019 is an election year for MUSIGA and the race to replace Bice Osei Kuffour also known as Obuor is getting competitive.

Some notable members of the organisation have started filing for the position.

Speaking to ClassFMonline.com’s Ahmed Kollene on the sidelines of the launch of his manifesto in Kumasi on Tuesday, 21 May 2019, Ras Caleb said if he is elected president of MUSIGA, he will put in place the necessary structures so that artistes like Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and others will find MUSIGA attractive to become members.

“MUSIGA is not strong enough, so, musicians will not listen to us, but when I come to power, I’ll bring Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and all the so-called wayward [artistes] on board. I don’t see them to be wayward though, but we’re going to bring them to the union because I’ve heard that they are ready to join MUSIGA but the union is not strong enough, the union must be strong,” Ras Caleb said.

Ras Caleb disclosed that he is contesting for the position because the union, as it stands now, has abandoned its members, especially its regional executives.

“MUSIGA has abandoned its members, especially those in the regions. They don’t take regional issues seriously, if they were passionate about us, the regional executives, I, Ras Caleb, will not bother myself contesting for this position, I’ll rather stand for the Chairman position for MUSIGA Greater Accra Region and wait for the right time,” he stated, adding that: “People keep asking: where is the GHS2 million that was given to MUSIGA? What did we do with the $100,000 that Kofi Amoah gave to MUSIGA? Go to Greater Accra Region and ask, our sign boards are broken down and we can’t even fix it because we don’t have money.”

Ras Caleb will be competing with veteran highlife singer Bessa Simons for the MUSIGA presidency.
