Although collaborations between secular and gospel artistes are often opposed by some members of the gospel fraternity, Florence Obinim does not share that view.

In an interview with JoyPrime on March 30, 2026, she explained that while she has not yet considered working with a secular artiste, if she were to choose one, it would be dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.

“I haven’t planned for that, and it’s not something on my radar, but if I had to choose one person, I would go with Shatta Wale. If given the chance, I would love to collaborate with him,” she said.

Explaining why she mentioned Shatta Wale, she noted that his generosity and encouragement towards his fans stands out.

“I admire Shatta Wale for how he encourages his fans to pray and for his generosity toward the needy. Those qualities have made me like him from his early days,” she said.

Amid arguments from some gospel musicians that the mission of secular artistes does not align with that of gospel singers, whose primary focus is on God, salvation, Florence maintained that everyone is responsible for their own choices and judgment is personal.

“I’m very open to working with him if he reaches out, because at the end of the day, we’re all human. No one has the right to judge anyone; on judgment day, he will be judged for his actions, and I will be judged for mine,” she added.

Ghana’s music scene has, however, witnessed several successful collaborations between gospel and secular artistes over the years.

Hits such as “Bebree” by Herty Borngreat featuring Sarkodie, “The Lord’s Prayer” by Joyce Blessing featuring AB Crentsil, “Ahobrase” by Yaw Sarpong and the Asomafo featuring Sarkodie, “Odo Yi Wo Hen” by Lady Prempeh featuring Richie Mensah and Asem, as well as “Boys Boys” by Nacee and Guru, have been memorable to music lovers over the years.
