Ghanaian media personality and fashion icon, Kofi Okyere Darko, popularly known as KOD, has expressed concerns over the inadequate funding usually allocated for the creative arts sector.

Speaking at the 3Entertainment Creative Arts Forum, KOD noted that the lack of financial support has hindered the production of movies and other creative projects.

According to him, increased funding from both private entities and the government would go a long way to aid with the growth of the industry.

"The major challenge facing the creative industry or the orange economy in this country is that of funding. If we are able to put some funds into what we do, I think it will elevate it to the next level.

“People are asking why Ghana is not producing movies like we did back in the day, executive producers are struggling. So if there’s funding from the private sector, working hand-in-hand with the government, we are definitely going to propel what we do to greater height," he stated.

KOD’s calls join that of other creative industry stakeholders including veteran Ghanaian actress Akorfa Edjeani, who expressed her frustration over the lack of financial support for the country's film industry.

She highlighted the disparity in funding between sports and the film industry, questioning why substantial amounts are allocated to sports while the film fund remains empty.

She called on leaders to recognise the broader impact of the creative sector beyond entertainment, stressing that it provides education, information, and cultural reorientation.
